Gym advertising · Meta · Google · billed for active work only
Gym advertising with a cost per member you can actually see.
Ads are the fastest way to put leads in front of a gym and the easiest way to waste money doing it. I run Meta and Google ads for gyms on top of tracking, so the report says what a member cost from each channel, not just how many people clicked.
First Tracking before spend
Why I will not run ads for a gym without attribution
Most gym ad accounts I inherit can tell you how many leads came in and nothing about what happened next. Form fills are not members. A six-week challenge ad can produce forty leads at nine dollars each and zero people who are still paying in month three. Without a CRM that records the source of every lead and whether it joined, you are grading the ads on the wrong number.
So attribution gets built first. Every ad lead lands in the CRM tagged with its campaign, gets an automatic text within the minute, and gets your reply when you are between sessions. The monthly report then shows leads, members and cost per member for Meta, for Google, and for organic search side by side. That is the number that tells you whether to spend more or stop.
Channels What each one is for
Google ads catch demand. Meta ads create it.
Google Search ads reach people already searching for a gym, a trainer or a class near them. Higher intent, higher cost per click, and the leads close better. In 2026 a gym search lead typically runs twenty-five to ninety dollars. This is where I start a gym that needs bookings this month.
Meta ads on Facebook and Instagram reach people who were not looking yet. Cheaper per lead, typically eight to forty dollars, and lower intent. They work when the offer is specific, the follow-up is fast, and you are honest with yourself about how many challenge sign-ups become members.
Retargeting puts your gym back in front of people who visited the site or the profile and did not book. Small budget, high return, and only possible when the site has tracking on it.
Whichever channel, the ads send people to a page on a site you own, built to convert on a phone, not to a generic landing page template that disappears when you stop paying an agency.
Billing Hourly for hands-on time. Monitoring is free.
No retainer for watching a dashboard
Ads management is billed hourly for the active work: building campaigns, writing and testing creative, adjusting budgets, fixing what the report says is broken. Monitoring an account that is running fine costs you nothing. I have no incentive to invent changes in a month that does not need them, and the report shows what was touched and why.
Ad spend goes from you to Meta and Google directly. I never hold your budget. Typical monthly costs for the whole category, including agencies that bundle spend, are on the cost guide.

About ads for gyms
How much do gym ads cost per lead?
In 2026, Meta leads for gyms typically run eight to forty dollars each. The cheapest leads come from challenge offers and bring the most tire-kickers with them. Google Search leads run twenty-five to ninety dollars, with higher intent, and competitive metros push past a hundred.
Should a gym run Facebook ads or Google ads?
Google Search catches people already looking for a gym. Meta reaches people who were not looking yet, cheaper per lead and lower intent. Most single-location gyms should get search and the Google Business Profile working first, then add Meta once they can answer leads within minutes.
What do you charge to manage gym ads?
Active management is billed hourly for the hands-on time only. Monitoring an account that is running fine is free. Ad spend is paid by you directly to the platform.
Why do gym ads stop working?
Usually one of three things: the offer got stale, the follow-up is slow so leads go cold before anyone replies, or nobody is tracking which ads produce members rather than just form fills. Fixing the tracking and the reply speed comes before touching the ads.

Send me the thing you are trying to fix at your gym, whether that is an empty pipeline, a website nobody finds, or ad spend you cannot account for. I read and answer every message myself. The first conversation is me looking at your site and your search visibility and telling you plainly what I would do first.
